The nutmeg tree is native to the Molucca Islands of Indonesia, though it can be found throughout the West Indies. Both the spice mace and nutmeg are harvested from the same tree, and both come from the fruit it produces. Mace is the protective aril surrounding the seed kernel found within the fruit of the nutmeg tree. The mace is separated from the seed, and both are dried separately.

In high doses, this spice is incredibly toxic, and as a result, should be used internally sparingly and infrequently. Medicinally, nutmeg is used to aid digestive issues such as excessive gas and nausea. This is typically done through the use of essential oils, though a pinch of the ground spice will work as well. To help heal eczema, create a paste with ground nutmeg and water, then apply it to the affected area.

Magically, nutmeg is used to attract luck, abundance, money, and happiness. Usually, this is done by carrying the nutmeg on your person, however, ground nutmeg is also an effective herb to dress candles with. It is said that placing a nutmeg under your mattress will increase fidelity in your relationship, and prevent both partners from straying.
