Sheep Sorrel, also known as red sorrel and sour weed, is a flowering perennial originating in Eurasia and the British Isles. The plant is now found in most temperate climates around the world, typically favouring open areas and meadows. 

Sheep sorrel is high in vitamin C, making it a great herb for boosting the immune system and expediting recovery from cold and flu symptoms. The herb is also effective in flushing one's system, given its diuretic effects. Sheep sorrel should not be used, however, by those who have a tendency to develop kidney stones due to the plant's high concentration of oxalates - chemicals which can contribute to the formation of kidney stones. Most notably, sheep sorrel was a key ingredient in Essiac - a tea or tincture containing herbs and roots said to prevent and heal cancer - the recipe for which originated with the Anishinaabe people of Turtle Island. The mixture itself has great antioxidant effects, however, the efficacy of its ability to heal and prevent cancer has not been proven. 

Magically, sheep sorrel is used predominantly in healing magic, most likely derived from its use as a medicinal herb. Specifically, sheep sorrel was said to protect against heart disease when carried on your person and was placed in sick rooms or infirmaries to speed up the healing process.
