Wood Betony can be added to purification and protection mixtures and incense, and it is traditional to burn it in a fire on Midsummer and jump through the smoke to purify the body of evil. It protects the home if scattered by the door and window. 

Wood Betony is an analgesic nervine that relaxes tension in the muscles. It is frequently used in formulas for headaches and is used to relieve middle back pain and tension, facial pain and muscle tension. It is helpful for people whose minds are overactive and stressed and helps ease tension in one's thoughts and emotions. Wood Betony is an uplifting and slightly warming relaxing aromatic.
