Yucca is a genus of shrubs and trees with over 40 different species, the most well-known of which is the Joshua Tree, which is exclusively found in the Mojave Desert. The Yucca genus is native to arid locations in the Americas and Caribbean, but can also be found in subtropical and semi-temperate zones as well.
As an emollient, Yucca made into a rinse or soap helps moisturize the skin and scalp, reducing dryness and dandruff. The root of the yucca plant can be made into a poultice to stop bleeding and expedite the healing process of wounds. As an anti-inflammatory, Yucca can also be useful in relieving pain associated with inflammatory disorders such as arthritis.

A cross braided from yucca fibres and hung above the hearth or door is said to cleanse one's home and protect it from malefic spirits and energies. This charm is especially powerful if made on Imbolc as a St. Brigid's cross. To remove a curse or hex, rub a slice of Yucca root all over your body once a day for a full week (seven days). After those seven days, burn the root and bury the ash away from your home to complete the process.
