The lemon tree is a species of small evergreen related to Rue and native to Asia, specifically Northeast India and Northern Myanmar. Thought to have originated in India, they were introduced to Italy around 200AD and then to Egypt and Iran around 700AD. Lemon fruit is typically harvested in the winter months, as this is when the concentration of vitamin C is highest.

Due to the high concentration of vitamin C present, lemons are fantastic for boosting the immune system and expediting the recovery from cold and flu symptoms. Lemons are valued for their antiseptic and antibacterial qualities, as they can be effective in preventing fevers, infections of the stomach, liver, and intestines, and circulatory system. A long-used cold remedy includes lemon juice, hot water, a crushed garlic clove, and a pinch of ground cinnamon. This can be consumed up to three times a day.

Symbolically, lemons have attributed the power of deflection to the evil eye - this is because the fruit itself is shaped like an eye. Lemons are also utilized in purification and cleansing magic due to their antiseptic and antibacterial qualities, as well as their common use in household cleaning products. This is particularly useful when you need to both physically and energetically cleanse an item, as simply mixing lemon juice with water can make an effective wash for such items. Adding lemon peel or leaves to spells or rituals involving love and lust can amplify these intentions.
