Althea is commonly used as an herb of protection and psychic awareness. Carry the herb in a pouch or burn it as incense for those purposes. Putting Althea leaves in your shoes is said to lead you to treasure, and thus is a good substitute for the uncommon herb "Gall of the Earth" (Prenanthes trifolioliata). Althea is also said to attract benevolent spirits, especially when burned as incense with Myrrh, Frankincense, Copal, or Benzoin. Keeping a bowl or jar of this herb on your altar is said to attract good spirits to your space. The leaves and flowers of Althea can be soaked in oil to make an anointing oil that aids in protection from malevolent entities or spells.
