The Chrysanthemum sometimes referred to as mum, is a flowering plant native to East Asia and Northeastern Europe. They were first cultivated in China, and present in records as far back as the 15th century BC. Now, there are over 20,000 cultivars (variations occurring in plants through selective breeding) and has become one of the most popular decorative garden plants worldwide.

Symbolically, the colour of chrysanthemum flowers all have specific meanings when gifted to another person. Bronze/orange flowers represent amity or platonic love; red flowers represent requited romantic love, white flowers represent trust and honesty; and yellow flowers indicate that the giver is taken in a romantic relationship already.

The traditional culinary use of chrysanthemum is its incorporation into tea, or as a garnish in certain Japanese dishes. When steeped into a tea, the flowerheads can reduce symptoms of high blood pressure such as tension headaches, dizziness, insomnia, and tinnitus. Due to the plant’s antiseptic qualities, consuming an infusion can help treat infection and reduce fever. To treat skin conditions while utilizing chrysanthemum's antiseptic qualities, make a poultice of the flowerheads and apply to acne, boils, pimples, and sores.

In ancient times, it was believed that carrying a wreath made of chrysanthemum flowers would protect you from the anger of the gods after transgressing their divine rules. To bless and protect your home, plant chrysanthemum in your garden or keep inside as a potted plant. Incorporate chrysanthemum flowers into magical workings designed to invoke forgiveness and remove any limiting beliefs that may be inhibiting your spiritual growth.
