Green Opal is a naturally occurring variety of Common Opal, composed of hydrated silica (SiO₂·nH₂O). It forms when silica-rich water deposits material within rock cavities and fractures. Its beautiful shades of soft green come from trace elements and mineral inclusions, including iron or nickel-bearing minerals. Unlike Precious Opal, it generally does not display rainbow flashes of colour.
