Violet is a creeping perennial native to Europe and Asia, though it can now be found throughout the United States and Canada as well. The flowers and leaves of the Violet plant should be harvested and dried in the Spring, and the roots should be harvested and dried in the Autumn. 

Violet is an effective treatment for cold and flu symptoms when brewed into a tea or syrup. This is due to its expectorant and demulcent qualities, which have been long understood and utilized in European herbalism traditions to clear congestion in the chest and throat. The roots of the plant are much more potent than the rest of the plant, and when consumed in high doses can become emetic, stimulating vomiting. 

The understanding of Violet being a plant for love magic spans most traditions. Almost everywhere we can see some part of the plant being used for all manner of love magics and spells, with the leaves and the flowers being the most utilized part of the plant.
