Due to its nature as an antispasmodic and antipyretic (substance that reduces fever), Linden is often used to relieve cold and flu symptoms such as fever, shakes, congestion, and trouble sleeping. This is usually done by consuming the plant via tea made from the flowers. The flowers of the Linden tree (sometimes called Lime tree, even though it is not related to the tree which produces the Lime fruit) are also used to relieve physical symptoms of emotional stress, such as panic, high blood pressure, headaches, insomnia, and nervous palpitations.
Linden has long been used for protection by magical practitioners in Europe, frequently hung above doors to protect one's home. The leaves and flowers are often used in love spells. Combine with Lavender in a sachet or pouch and place under your pillow to aid with sleep and mitigate insomnia.
