Valerian root is an effective sleep aid, most commonly brewed in tea for this purpose, though it also can be used in a sachet or on it's own under your pillow to this end as well. Valerian root can also be placed in a sachet and hung in your home for protection. It should also be noted that this is a particularly stinky herb, tasting about as good as it smells.
